
Junior 3D Technical Assistant

The BUCK 3D department is a team of highly creative and technical artists working in a collaborative environment.
We value the importance of in-person collaboration as a cornerstone of building positive culture, fostering growth, and driving success for individuals, the department, and BUCK as a whole.
In 2025, the guidance for in-office work is 1–3 days per week, with exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities:
- Support artists and the broader 3D team by resolving technical issues on client work, optimizing workflows, and contributing to pipeline development.
- Collaborate with Technical Directors, Pipeline Developers, IT, and Engineering to maintain smooth operations.
- Investigate new workflows, tools and efficiencies within the 3D department.
- Help the TDs, Artists and Supervisors create unique creative tooling for the department.
- Assist in the support and maintenance of Deadline render farms. Including checking for job errors, informing artists, and suggesting solutions when possible.
- Develop and maintain a strong knowledge base in Buck’s 3d workflow and custom tooling.
- Collaborate with Technical Artists across sites.
- Anticipate issues and communicate early to avoid downstream repercussions.
Requirements:
- 1+ years of experience in a similar industry or role.
- Experience resolving technical challenges.
- Experience in Python, or other programming languages (e.g., C++, VEX, MEL, Rust, TypeScript), and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Strong organizational skills and discipline in tracking your own work across short and long term goals.
- Interest or proficiency in AI-driven workflows.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proactive problem-solving skills and a drive for self-education.
- Understanding and experience with the 3D production process.
- Additional desired skills:
- Scene assembly and Lighting (Maya, Cinema 4D, Houdini)
- Compositing (Nuke)
Software Requirements:
- Strong software knowledge of at least one of the following 3D packages:
- Maya
- Houdini
- Cinema 4D
- Blender
- Knowledge of one of the following render engines, or knowledge in another and willingness to learn and work in:
- V-Ray
- Redshift - Windows Operating System
Compensation:
- Salary Band: $70-80k
