The UX team plays an integral part in gathering insights about the attitudes, emotions, and behaviors of people who use our products to inspire and inform design. 

We collaborate closely with each other and with engineering and product management to create industry-leading products that deliver value for the people who use them, and for Google’s businesses.

As a Motion Designer, you’ll apply your passion for animation to simplify complex interactions and solve challenging design problems. 

You’ll help define and implement Google’s motion design language and you’ll think critically about how motion reinforces Google’s UX brand, enhances interactivity, and delights our users.

In this role, you will represent a blend of high-craft visual design with a foundational understanding of interaction design. 

You will be responsible for shaping and delivering design across the product development lifecycle from goal-setting concepts and translating those into go-to-market design solutions. 

You will be system-thinker and direct builder who will design elegant, human-centric products and bring them to life visual highly crafted visual and motion design.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of motion design experience in product design, UX design, or UX/UI animation.
  • 2 years of experience in high-fidelity prototyping to demonstrate how motion defines look, feel, and behavior.
  • Experience in motion design related to physics, patterns, and visual design elements.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building or contributing to a motion design system that ensures platform-wide consistency and quality.
  • Experience in After Effects or utilizing Figma features for motion.
  • Experience in high-fidelity prototyping to demonstrate how motion defines look, feel, and behavior.
  • Ability to partner with other designers, product managers, and engineering to drive impact on product strategy, roadmap and delivery to market.
  • Ability to clearly articulate and present motion concepts to cross-functional partners.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end motion design for Google Image Search features, from initial concepts and motion specification to implementation.
  • Define and contribute to the Image Search design system, creating principles and scalable patterns that ensure a fluid, cohesive, and expressive product experience.
  • Partner closely with engineers to ensure the implementation of motion and visual designs meets Image Search’s standards for product design excellence.
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations to stakeholders, articulating design rationale and advocating for motion and visual design excellence.
  • Prototype (e.g. Figma or code) with a willingness for iterative learning.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $151,000-$222,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. 

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
