Mid-Level Motion Designer
Pennant Video
Pennant Video is a creative studio specializing in mid-funnel video marketing for B2B brands in cyber-security, health tech, SaaS and sustainability.
What that means in practice: we produce live-action and motion-driven videos that combine strong editorial storytelling with motion graphics and visual effects.
As a small team of producers, writers, editors, designers, and multi-hyphenate creatives, we take the work seriously – and enjoy the process of making it.
Right now, we’re seeking a mid-level Motion Designer (4–7 years of relevant professional experience) to join our team.
This role is motion-first, with meaningful collaboration as an editor when a project requires.
Position Overview
The Motion Designer will develop and execute motion graphics across a range of branded video projects. Many of our projects combine live-action footage, editorial structure, kinetic typography, animation, and compositing. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating within that mixed-media environment.
This role works closely with creative leadership and contributes to both client projects and Pennant-branded visibility content (marketing, socials, etc).
Key Responsibilities
- Design and animate motion graphics for branded video projects
- Translate creative direction and storyboards into polished motion sequences
- Integrate motion graphics with live-action footage
- Execute compositing, tracking, and light VFX tasks as needed
- Collaborate with editors to support motion-driven builds
- Edit projects in Premiere when appropriate
- Prepare and organise project files for efficient team collaboration
Qualifications
Required:
- Based in greater Boston, MA or Austin, TX area
- 4–7 years of professional experience in motion design within a production company, agency or in-house creative team
- Advanced proficiency in After Effects
- Strong working knowledge of Premiere
- Experience designing for motion (typography, layout, animation systems)
- Familiarity with Figma
- Experience working within brand systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Preferred:
- Experience working in mixed-media environments (live-action + motion + VFX)
- Experience collaborating closely with editors and directors
- Experience building scalable branded motion systems
Why You'd Be a Great Fit
You’ll thrive in this role if you’ve built real experience inside video production environments and have developed both strong motion design capabilities and an editor’s mindset – someone who understands how pieces come together, not just how they move.
You should be comfortable contributing to projects that require both animation execution and thoughtful integration within video storytelling.
We also recognize that creative careers aren’t always linear. Many of us took non-traditional paths to get here – and we value that perspective. (Think: action sports, bartending, used car sales…) So, we’re not looking for just some cookie-cutter person who “says all the right things” or “looks good on paper.” You will love this team and thrive if you are open, honest and love making great ideas better.
Which is to say, we welcome candidates with non-traditional paths into motion design, including those who began their careers in editorial or adjacent creative roles and have since centered motion in their practice.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $85,000–$105,000 annually, depending on experience.
Benefits include:
- Flexible PTO
- Parental leave
- Monthly healthcare stipend
- Professional development budget
- 401(k) structure (details provided during interview process)
