Earthjustice, the nation’s leading environmental law organization, seeks a Sr. Digital & Motion Designer to lead the organization’s social media content creation. 

We’re looking for someone who has deep experience in production of branded content with a “social-first” approach to design and video.  

This position will produce high-quality content for social media and digital platforms that reflect Earthjustice’s established brand identity while evolving our creative with a “made for social” approach. 

A core member of the Social Media team, the Graphic & Motion Designer also works with other members of Digital, Communications, Development and Program staff on design and motion projects that support both fundraising, marketing, and high-impact programmatic work. 

Responsibilities:

Design, Video & Motion Graphics Production (80%)  

  • Social media content creation: Serve as lead in-house content designer within Earthjustice’s social media team, overseeing production of content such as graphics, explainers, animations, and short form video 
  • Visual communications: Strategize with social media and communications staff on ways to creatively communicate Earthjustice news and advocacy programs for social audiences 
  • Cross-team collaboration: Collaborate with managing producers on short-form social media explainer videos, including editing, animations, and motion graphics 
  • Design social-first content for use across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, Threads, LinkedIn, and others as needed 
  • Participate in content brainstorms and creative strategy sessions with Social Media and Editorial teams
  • Produce social content that is aligned with Earthjustice’s brand identity, while making recommendations and alterations to ensure content is “made for social”
  • Provide additional design support for Digital Engagement campaigns on other channels, such as SMS, email, and web 

Workflow & Project Management (20%) 

  • Work cross-functionally with project leads, creative teams, communications strategists, and other stakeholders to translate Earthjustice’s campaigns and focus areas into interesting, digestible digital content
  • Maintain and grow an archive of resources, such as templates, stock photos, videos, sound effects, and more for use among other designers, freelancers, and vendors
  • Oversee additional creative freelancers and vendors to ensure cohesive brand identity across materials for other social media and digital campaign deliverables
  • Manage content production timelines and workflows for both short- and long-term projects, keeping teammates informed about priorities and proactively communicating about shifts in timeline 

Required Qualifications:

  • BA in Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Digital Media Design or equivalent combination of training and design experience required. 
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in the field of graphic design, motion design, and social media. 
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro) and Microsoft Office. 
  • Knowledge of visual design principles, including typography, identity, and branding hierarchy. 
  • Demonstrated experience with social media content creation and knowledge of “social-first” creative production. 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects with varying size and stakeholder engagement. Ability to multitask while staying organized and productive. 
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects from start to finish 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to maintain workflow with remote teams through proactive updates. 
  • Freehand illustration skills a plus.    
  • Working knowledge of social media strategy, trends, and platforms   
  • Knowledge of environmental issues preferred.    
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.

Compensation is based on experience and location.   

San Francisco, CA and New York, NY: $96,500- $107,200

Washington, DC and Seattle, WA: $91,700- $101,900

Philadelphia, PA and Denver, CO: $86,900- $96,500

Texas (State) and Miami, FL: $82,100- $91,200

Other salary ranges will vary between $82,100-$101,900 depending on location.
