Posted February 13 / Toronto / Full time / On Site

Tendril exists to amplify the genius of ambitious brands.

We help category leaders, innovators, and creators bring their ideas to life through multi-dimensional brand expression — extending brands across motion, sound, toolkits and design systems.

Our work enables people to truly see, understand, and appreciate the craft, thinking, and intent behind complex products, platforms, and worlds that might otherwise be missed.

An Art Director defines and oversees the visual vision of a project, shaping its aesthetic, mood, and storytelling language.

You collaborate closely with Directors, Producers, and the Artists that you manage to ensure that design, animation, and technical execution come together in a cohesive, high-quality whole.

With a refined eye for craft and a strong grasp of visual systems, you balance creative intuition with practical execution, translating abstract ideas into clear visual frameworks that amplify each project’s narrative and emotional impact, and help elevate your direct report’s skillset.

The Opportunity

  • Manage a team of Artists through regular touchpoints, feedback, and guidance to help you deliver on concepts for projects.
  • Partner with the Director to define and uphold a project’s visual vision; guiding style, tone, and storytelling from concept through delivery.
  • Translate ideas and briefs into unified design systems and look explorations that inform every creative and technical decision throughout production.
  • Work hands-on in design, contributing both conceptual thinking and “on-the-box” execution to support layout, cinematography, composition, and animation.
  • Collaborate with production, design, and technical leads to ensure creative intent aligns with scope, schedule, and resources while protecting overall quality.
  • Provide constructive, empowering feedback to Artists and Animators, helping them refine visual language, craft consistency, and storytelling clarity.
  • Draw inspiration from evolving trends in motion design, film, fashion, fine art, and emerging technologies, using them to keep the studio’s visual language bold and relevant.
  • Elevate each project’s creative outcome by ensuring every frame contributes meaningfully to the story and embodies Tendril’s standard of visual excellence.
