Hornet is seeking a Lead Compositor to join the team. 

Lead Compositors play a crucial role in enhancing and realizing design and story. 

They are tasked with using their own creative vision and skill to represent the culmination of artistic output of entire teams of talented individuals. 

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, capable of easily conveying ideas and challenges to production. 

They should be committed to delivering the highest quality product on screen and possess a diverse range of artistic and technical skills to make a piece truly stand out. 

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite at our Soho office. Certain projects may occasionally require a full-time in-office presence.

Responsibilities:

  • As a Lead Nuke Compositor, candidate must be able to seamlessly integrate all assets and elements for a shot from live-action footage, stop motion footage, 2D or 3D sources with minimal technical oversight.
  • Responsible for project team management, shot allocation, look development, project workflow and finishing.
  • Manage timeline of project in progress in Flame or Resolve for QC and reviews
  • Conduct reviews with the project compositing team to keep all shots on track in terms of artistic quality and timing.
  • Work with Directors and Studio Creative Directors to help creatively elevate active projects.
  • Advise the bidding team on creative, budget and schedule implications for potential projects as they move through the pitch and pre-production phases.
  • Collaborate with Producer, Director of Production and Head of 2D to balance budget and artist resources against creative and client feedback.
  • Proactive engagement with advancing creative technology tools and the knowledge of how and when to use these tools in a production environment.
  • Be a resource to other studio compositors as technical issues or pipeline questions arise.
  • Instruct and enforce studio production workflow standards with production crew and freelance artists.
  • Help mentor artists new to compositing from juniors, interns and artists coming from other departments.

Qualifications:

  • 5 to 7 Years of VFX Compositing experience on a broad variety of projects. 1 to 2 years of related project leadership experience.
  • Strong communication skills, comfort with direct client interaction, and enthusiasm for both leading and learning are required.
  • After Effects, Resolve and/or Flame experience are a plus.
  • Keen eye for color and detail and a passion for a variety of styles of art.
  • Knowledge of CG process from start to finish. Knowledge of Unreal or Cinema 4D is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Python is a plus. Proficiency in AI / ML desktop and web APIs a plus.
  • On set VFX supervision experience and interest in pursuing this field is a plus.
